Professional Performance Experience

Assistant Principal Clarinet and Clarinet Soloist, U.S. Army Field Band (USAFB), Washington D.C. (Retired). As a member of the U.S. Army Field Band, Bill performed as soloist on many national tours of the United States. As Assistant Principal Clarinet, Bill toured extensively on the international scene as well, performing in Great Britain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Japan, and Okinawa. This included concerts for many heads of state, including the President of France, Chancellor of Germany, and Queen Elizabeth II of England.


Bill was also a member of the USAFB Woodwind Quintet, and performed many recitals in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area. Along with the other members of the Quintet, Bill received First Prize in the coveted Peabody Conservatory Chamber Ensemble competition. Bill was a frequent recitalist in the USAFB chamber music series, having performed all the major chamber works for the clarinet, including the music of Stamitz, Mozart, Von Weber, Brahms, Rossini, Schubert, Spohr, Reger, Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, Debussy, and Finzi.


Soloist, United States Marine Band. Bill has performed as soloist with the U.S. Marine Band (President’s Own) at venues such as Lisner Auditorium, Jefferson Memorial and at the U.S. Capitol.


Additional Solo Performances. Performed as soloist with the Columbia Orchestra (Columbia, MD), Columbia Pro Cantare Orchestra (Columbia, MD), Maryland Philharmonic Orchestra, Allentown Symphony and Allentown Band (Allentown, PA), and the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble. Bill has also appeared as recitalist at the Kennedy Center’s prestigious Terrace Theatre, performing the music of Schubert for the Ambassador of Korea.


Additional Ensemble Performances. Performances have included the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Bach in Baltimore Orchestra, Annapolis Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, Annapolis Opera, Opera Viventi of Baltimore, Howard County Chamber Orchestra, the Handel Choir of Baltimore, Gettysburg Symphony, Maryland Philharmonic Orchestra, Concert Artists of Baltimore, and the New Sousa Band with director Keith Bryant. Bill is also the Principal Clarinet and Orchestra Manager of the Young Vic Theatre in Baltimore, having over many years performed all the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan. Bill has had the privilege of performing under the baton of many world renowned conductors, including Arthur Fiedler of the Boston Pops, Frederick Fennell of the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Sam Fricano, Conductor Emeritus, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
